The Vintner's Trilogy no.3 of 3
Double Matured, first for thirteen years in Ex-Bourbon Barrels, then for fourteen more in Port Pipes.
The range, which explores the combination of Bowmore with ex-wine, Sherry and Port casks, was launched last year with with the release of two single malts: Bowmore 18 years Manzanilla Cask and Bowmore 26 years French Oak Barrique.
This Bowmore 27 years is the third and final entry in the Bowmore Vintner's. It has spent 13 years in ex-Bourbon barrels before being transferred to Port pipes, where the whisky was aged for another 14 years – all in Bowmore’s famous No 1 Vaults warehouse on Islay.
It is said to balance sweetness, spice, saltiness and peat smoke, with a palate that is ‘sweet and salty, with a hint of smoke, mixed with sultanas, sugarplums, salted caramel and sweet, leathery notes’.
‘The combination of ex-Bourbon and Port casks has created a unique Bowmore expression that showcases the rich flavour we’re famous for in a completely new way,’ said Bowmore distillery manager David Turner.
The third and final entry in the Bowmore Vintner's trilogy, bringing in Portugal's best-known wine export – Port. Matured for 13 years in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to port pipes for a further 14 years, this whisky is complex and rich, marrying dried-fruit notes from the pipes with fresher toffee and caramel, and, of course, Bowmore's smoky and fruity character. It's bottled at cask-strength, creating an intensely flavoured examination of whisky and wine casks.
